Alibaba Group Announces New “Alitrip” Brand and Domain Name, Shares Strategy to Enhance Online Travel Business

Alibaba Group (NYSE:BABA) today announced that its online travel business, Taobao Travel (trip.taobao.com) will become an independent business and brand named “Alitrip” (去啊). Like Taobao Marketplace, Tmall.com and Juhuasuan, “Alitrip” will be another marketplace platform under Alibaba Group with a new independent web domain www.alitrip.com.

Alitrip currently has over 10,000 merchants on its platform providing airplane tickets, vacation packages, hotel booking services, visa application services and tour guide services. This, in combination with Alitrip’s online payment infrastructure and customer protection scheme, differentiates Alitrip from other online travel sites.

Mr. Li also commented, “Traditionally, online travel businesses have always focused on the sales of travel products, while a large unmet demand for travel services remains. We aim to elevate the online travel sector to a higher level through Alitrip’s service offerings.”

Region's largest private hospital opens in Dubai

The largest private hospital in the region opened in Dubai yesterday as the emirate is vying to become the medical hub of the Middle East.

That the 300-bed Saudi German Hospital built at the cost of Dh400 million is a milestone in Dubai's bid to attract "medical tourists".

The hospital was inaugurated by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Also present was Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai.

여행 일정을 스스로 설계해서 공유하는 사이트를 발견했다. 대단한 기능을 담고 있지만 뭔가 좀 엉성하다. 동양인들이 사용하기에는 다소 버겁고 번잡하다. 그러나 여행사 입장에서는 일정을 설계해서 고객과 공유할 경우에는 유용하게 쓰일 수 있을 것으로 여긴다.

TripIt 팀에서 각 국 NTO와 제휴를 할 경우, 상당한 파급효과가 예상된다.

Royal Caribbean’s newest cruise ship, the Allure of the Seas, is not just big. It is the biggest cruise ship in the world, and as such it crashes magnificently against the tide of the zeitgeist: There is very little sustainable, small-batch, or boutique about it. The ship weighs 225,000 gross tons, consumes 4.7 million pounds of fresh water per day, and enjoys 1.6 million square feet of air conditioned space. At 1,187 feet long, the Allure of the Seas is precisely five centimeters longer than its sister ship, launched in 2009, the paradoxically-named Oasis of the Seas.

The motto on board the Allure, “The Nation of Why Not,’” could have been dreamed up by the marketing team at Countrywide. But it is not a hollow statement. There is an ice skating rink, a “Central Park” with exactly 12,175 plants and piped-in birdsong, a bar that doubles as an elevator, a giant pool that’s nearly 20 feet deep, and staterooms as large as 2,000 square feet.
